USDA Issues Request for Comment on “Made with Organic” Labeling
The USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service is seeking input regarding product labeled as “made with organic.” Processed products containing at least 70% organic ingredients may be labeled “made with organic.” Ingredients must be labeled with the claim. A draft guidance published by USDA addresses the use of nonorganic ingredients in “made with organic” products and clarifies the use of percentage statements under the “made with organic” labeling category. The draft guidance can be found at www.regulations.gov and entering the file document number AMS-NOP-10-0045. Comments are due by March 14, 2011.
