New Hampshire CSA, Chester, NH

By Helen Brody (February 22, 2012)

Established in 2008, by Gary and Fran Van Geyte with a group of local farmers, the New Hampshire CSA (NHCSA), now 70 members strong,  is a USDA organically certified  multi-farm CSA located on Spring Hill Farm, Towle Road in Chester, New Hampshire. The 500 acre farm was donated to the town by Muriel Church in 2006 and is protected from future development through the Spring Hill Farm Trust. 5 % of the CSA share cost is donated to maintain the working farm property.

In 2008, a grant was obtained by CSA co-manager Gary Van Geyte to install an artesian well that provides an abundant amount of water for the farms’ crops. Farms providing CSA shares  are New Harmony Farm, West Newbury, MA, Field to Fork Farm, Chester, NH and Enterprise Farm, Deerfield, MA.

Visitors are welcome and during the season will see a myriad of vegetables growing while chickens roam freely, cows graze and horses are running through the fields making the farm a truly bio-diverse one..

The CSA features  a monthly newsletter including a column on healthy living and nutrition by co-manager and registered dietitian Fran Van Geyte.
